The object of the Legion of Mary is the sanctification of its members through prayer and actively serving the person of Christ in His Mystical Body in union with Mary, His Mother. The Legion of Mary may be involved in any form of the Lay Apostolate that the Bishop of the Diocese or the Parish Priest assigns it. Its chief concern is the Spiritual Works of Mercy.
- Active members attend a weekly meeting and fulfill a weekly assignment of visitation involving about two hours.
- Auxiliary members are those who are unable to be active members, but who support the work of the Legion by their daily prayers. Certain official prayers including the prayer of the Holy Rosary are the bond of the auxiliary member of the Legion.
